Armstrong in the introduction to his monumental 746-page work, Farewell the Peaceful Kingdom (Stoddart Publishing, 1995). "In less than half a century, without a military conquest, a civil war, or a natural catastrophe, the northern half of the North America continent has devoured itself in a conflict over values," he continues. Armstrong's book is a chronicle of "the seduction and rape of Canada, 1963 to 1994," and is punctuated with the wit and wisdom of the author, making the bad news about Canada easier to bear.
