VIDEO – DESCRIPTION:
On July 19, 1992, a “Marijuana Mardi Gras” was held at Nathan Phillips Square, in front of Toronto City Hall. There was music, comedy and…speeches. In this video – after about 10 minutes of music, Freedom Party of Ontario President Robert Metz gives a speech (at 10:40 ) opposing prohibition. His speech is followed by one from Jack Herer, author of “The Emperor Wears No Clothes”. Interesting tidbit: Canada’s Progressive Conservatives banned literature about cannabis in 1988. The criminal law penalties for possessing such literature were as much as ten times higher than the penalty for possessing cannabis itself.
