ABOUT FREEDOM PARTY OF ONTARIO'S LOGO

Freedom Party of Ontario’s logo is comprised of a stylized “FP”, together with a depiction of the constellation ursa minor (also known as the “little dipper”) and a green-red-blue leaved white trillium flower in the position of Polaris (also known as the “North Star” or the “Pole Star”), which is the last star on the little dipper’s handle.

Used by sailors for centuries to navigate the globe’s northern hemisphere, Polaris’ unique trait is that it is situated almost directly over Earth’s north pole. The result is that, as Earth spins and rotates about the sun, Polaris’ position in the sky remains largely unchanged. Polaris is therefore a fixed and unchanging reference point in the sky which, with the assistance of navigational tools such as a sextant, sailors can use to determine their latitude on a map. Doing so is necessary if they are to determine their position and their proximity to their intended destination.

Freedom Party’s policies are guided by a similarly fixed and unchanging point of reference: Freedom Party’s founding principle. Specifically, in the development of policies, Freedom Party is governed by the principle that “Every individual, in the peaceful pursuit of personal fulfillment, has an absolute right to his or her own life, liberty, and property”. Thus, Polaris is symbolic of Freedom Party’s founding principle.

Polaris is represented by a trillium, the province of Ontario’s official flower, to mark the fact that Freedom Party of Ontario is an officially registered political party in the province of Ontario.

Freedom party’s political philosophy is freedom: freedom from the initiation of coercive physical force. Freedom is the result of an ethical belief that it is right to use physical force to defend life, liberty and property. Accordingly, in the Freedom Party logo, the leaves of the trillium are coloured green, red, and blue, which are symbolic of the defence of life, of liberty, and of property.

Green, red and blue are the component colours which, together, result in the white light of a star. In the Freedom Party logo, as in nature, the petals of the trillium are white, which is symbolic of the fact that freedom is the result of defending life, liberty and property. Thus, the trillium reminds us both of Freedom Party’s founding principle and of the important role of government in ensuring a free and just, hence civilized, society.
